We all want to look and feel our best, no matter how old we are. And the good news is there are some tried and true techniques for helping us be the best we can be, no matter what age is listed on our driver’s license. Let’s take a look at the top four tips to help you stay young and healthy on the inside and the outside. 

Exercise is Essential 

Studies have shown that exercise can significantly reduce your risk of common ailments such as cancer and heart disease. In addition, it has a whole host of other benefits such as reducing stress and improving the quality of your sleep, skin, and bone health. It’s also a great mood booster! So what’s not to love? And it doesn’t take as much time as you think. Experts recommend three to five hours a week of aerobic exercise combined with strengthening exercises at least two days a week. Aerobic exercise can be as easy as going for a walk, a jog a bike ride, or even a swim. And muscle strengthening exercises can be done with weights or resistance bands.  

You are What You Eat 

Eating healthy and mindfully is another key component to looking and feeling young. Think fresh fruits and vegetables along with healthy proteins such as beans and fish. You also need to include whole grains in your diet as well as good sources of dairy that are low fat or fat-free. Top that off with some healthy fats, and you are on your way to a younger, healthier you. 

Take Care of Your Skin 

The body’s largest organ needs some pampering as we age. Be sure to take care of it so it can keep you looking and feeling young. Always wear sunscreen of at least SPF 30 when you are going to be out in the sun and stick to skin care products that are gentle on your skin. Moreover, be sure to get screened for skin cancer at least once a year. Lastly, be sure to stay hydrated. It’s good for your body and will keep your skin looking its best. 

Sleep Your Way to a More Youthful You 

Sleeping is an essential part of our lives. But you need to make sure you are getting enough quality sleep as you age. It’s important both for your physical and mental health. Most experts agree that adults should get between seven and eight hours every night. And sleep doesn’t just make us feel rested and rejuvenated. It can also lower our risks for many ailments, including, stroke, heart disease, depression, obesity, and inflammatory diseases. So make sure you are getting your zzz’s!

Incorporate these tips into your daily life, and you’ll be looking and feeling better than you ever have before. After all, age is just a number, and it doesn’t have to define you. That job is up to you.
